Gov. Bob Ferguson has signed an executive order launching a statewide regulatory reform initiative to reduce red tape, improve agency efficiency and strengthen Washington’s economic competitiveness. The effort aligns with longstanding priorities for Washington hospitals. Reducing unnecessary costs, delays and paperwork that do not improve care while maintaining patient safety has been a key focus of WSHA’s advocacy efforts.
Hospitals face a growing volume of state and federal mandates that consume resources needed for patient services and workforce support. The order directs state agencies to review existing rules, identify outdated requirements and recommend ways to streamline government processes. Within 30 days of the order, it also creates a six-month pause on most new rulemaking that would add regulatory requirements.
Thoughtful reform can help providers focus on patients while preserving important health and safety protections. WSHA looks forward to opportunities to advance sensible reforms that boost efficiency and streamline access to care. (Zosia Stanley)
