Behavioral health conditions – largely suicide and accidental overdose – are leading causes of death for pregnant and postpartum people in Washington, accounting for nearly half of pregnancy-related deaths in the latest Maternal Mortality Review Panel Report. During the same report window, 82% of pregnancy-related deaths were found to be preventable, highlighting the powerful opportunity for health care providers to intervene and save lives.
