Taking STEM education on the road

To foster interest in these important and growing fields, Seattle Children’s takes its mobile Science Adventure Lab into the community for children to get some valuable — and fun — hands-on experience. The 45-foot lab is custom-built and outfitted with research-grade equipment that can accommodate up to 30 students at a time. Overhauling the state’s pharmacy rules

The Washington State Pharmacy Commission (PQAC) is conducting a comprehensive rewrite of its regulatory rules (more than 300 pages) in an effort to streamline and modernize Washington’s pharmacy rules. This work will begin at PQAC’s initial stakeholder meetings September 13-15. WSHA has advocated for the past three years that PQAC modernize its rules. Hurricane Harvey: Disaster, inspiration and a way to help

Houston is my hometown, and I’m watching in horror as it drowns. While we saw some wild Texas weather during my childhood, we never saw anything as devastating as Hurricane Harvey. I still have friends and family in the area. They are all safe. Some are in their homes, but quite a few evacuated. This week is only the beginning of the challenges Houston faces. An early intervention for lasting impacts

While the opioid epidemic has affected Americans in all communities, some communities have been hit harder than others. At PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview, nearly half of the expectant mothers giving birth suffer from a component of substance abuse, which is more than double the statewide average. U.S. Sen. Patty Murray — who visited the medical center this summer — said it was one of the most shocking facts she had heard while visiting dozens of Washington hospitals during the congressional recess.... With more than 52,000 overdoses in the U.S. in 2015, this day represents a time for us to remember those who have prematurely lost their lives, and to commit to taking action to address the opioid crisis.
