Stephanie Land is the author of Maid, a story exploring issues of poverty and the stigma surrounding those working to survive and navigate a social safety net with many gaps. Her story unfolds in the Pacific Northwest, at a homeless shelter (and subsequent transitional housing) in Port Townsend, where she lived with her infant daughter. Stephanie then worked her way through college in her 30s in Missoula, Montana, when she finally realized her longtime dream of becoming a writer. Her work has since appeared in The New York Times, The New York Review of Books, The Washington Post and many other outlets. Stephanie will give the opening plenary presentation at the Rural Hospital Leadership Conference in Chelan on Monday, June 24. Learn more about this year’s conference and register!
