Quincy Valley Medical Center recently demonstrated the power of rural communities to pull together in times of crisis. In Dec. 2019, a Quincy School District bus was rear-ended by a tour bus from Spokane. The tour-bus driver passed away at the scene. The students and tour bus passengers were all taken to the Quincy Valley Medical Center emergency room. For the critical access hospital, this was well-beyond the number of patients they were used to treating. However, with the support of hospital staff, volunteers, local businesses, and community leaders, the hospital was able to not only deliver quality health care to each patient, but also provide them with dinner, snacks for the road and emotional support. The whole story was reported by the Spokesman-Review.
