Fighting cancer is not only frightening, but it is also physically painful and exhausting, especially because cancer care has so many different elements, including testing, treatment and support. To take away the unnecessary stress of coordinating between different facilities and providers, Overlake Medical Center in Bellevue opened the Overlake Cancer Center, which offers comprehensive cancer care in a single location.
The new cancer center officially opened its doors September 14. It was designed from the ground up by cancer survivors and their families, doctors and staff, allowing for delivery of the highest-quality care in a patient-centered layout. The facility resides within the existing walls of the main Overlake hospital campus, but it has a separate entrance.
Physical therapy, social work and financial services are on site to offer support during treatment, and acupuncture and massage are expected to be added later this year. The opening of the cancer center completes the first phase of Overlake’s expansion of its Bellevue campus, called Project FutureCare, which will include a new five-story inpatient tower housing a modern Childbirth Center, two new state of the art surgical suites, an expanded Behavioral Health Unit and more. Construction will last through 2023.
