Important resource available to help people with disabilities protect their public benefits

August 29, 2019

Washington State offers people with disabilities and their families the opportunity to establish a special savings accounts without jeopardizing public benefits. The Washington State ABLE Savings Plan allows people with eligible disabilities to save money so that it cannot count as “resources” that would disqualify them financially for Medicaid benefits. This allows people to save for their everyday needs, invest in a tax-free account, and prepare for the future without losing their state or federal benefits. This opportunity can help support a broad array of people, including those with physical, mental and developmental disabilities.
