One in five people will suffer from a mental health disorder after pregnancy. This week, WSHA is kicking off the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) Perinatal Mental Health Bundle Workshops and Webinars. This programming will help birthing hospitals across Washington with technical assistance to implement maternal mental health screening, interventions and best practices over the next 15 months. To learn more about this work or get involved, email JenicaS@wsha.org.
Appropriately, the work begins during what is also Maternal Mental Health Awareness week. The aim of the week is to:
- Raise awareness of maternal mental health disorders
- Stop stigma and shame
- Advocate for pregnant and post-partum individuals and families impacted by mental health disorders
- Provide access to information, care and support they need to recover
People are encouraged to wear a blue dot this week to signify their solidarity and support for those struggling with mental health during or after pregnancy. You can learn more out the campaign by visiting: The Blue Dot Project Maternal Mental Health.
