Financial assistance available for implementing antimicrobial stewardship module

November 1, 2017

The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) is offering a special, time-limited offer of financial assistance to facilities that commit to implementing measurement and reporting using the NHSN Antimicrobial Use and Resistance (NHSN-AUR) module. The module can be implemented separately or together, and it is a way for facilities to report and analyze antimicrobial use and/or resistance in order to reduce antimicrobial resistant infections through antimicrobial stewardship efforts and interruption of transmission of resistant pathogens in a facility. The deadline for applying is December 1.

This application process is competitive and there is a limited amount of funding available. Prioritization of large, highly connected hospitals and hospital systems has been encouraged by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The DOH, in partnership with WSHA, promotes antimicrobial stewardship as a core element of patient safety. A key component of antimicrobial stewardship includes evaluating antimicrobial utilization and optimizing use.

Please discuss this opportunity with your hospital leadership, antimicrobial stewardship lead, pharmacy director and informatics officer to determine whether your facility should apply. Please contact Staci Kvak at the DOH at staci.kvak@DOH.wa.gov or (206) 418-5476 if you have any questions about this opportunity. Completed applications should be faxed to Staci at 206-346-1060.
