The Johns Hopkins Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality, in collaboration with the American College of Surgeons, is now enrolling hospitals for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Safety Program for Improving Surgical Care and Recovery (ISCR), a collaborative program to enhance the recovery of surgical patients. The project is funded and guided by AHRQ, so there is no fee for hospitals to join.
Interested hospitals are encouraged to begin enrollment now in order to participate in the 18-month program that starts March 1, 2020. AHRQ is enrolling hospitals interested in implementing an emergency general surgery or colorectal enhanced recovery surgery program.
As part of this program, hospitals will have access to evidence-based enhanced recovery pathways, coaching and content calls with experts in the field, resources to help implement your program, the ACS data collection platform and continuous clinical and implementation support.
A new opportunity to improve opioid stewardship and outpatient multimodal pain control will be introduced with the launch of the cohort 4. Participating hospitals will have access to the following:
- Provider Guidelines for Appropriate Outpatient Opioid Prescribing
- Patient Education on Safe Pain Control after Surgery
- Opportunity to Track Opioid Prescribing with New Variables in the ACS Registry for hospitals participating in the ISCR program
