DSHS begins presumptive eligibility process for long term services and supports

December 6, 2023

Starting Dec. 4, the state Department of Social and Health Services Home and Community Services Division has begun a Medcaid presumptive eligibility process for long term services and supports elgibility for patients discharging to home.

Presumptive eligibility will allow certain Medicaid clients discharging from hospitals to access long term services and supports without having to wait for lengthy Medicaid eligibility determinations. WSHA advocated in support of this program to help Medicaid patients move out of hospitals more quickly and supports future expansion of presumptive eligibility. DSHS will be providing training opportunities in early 2024 for hospitals on the presumptive eligibility process. WSHA will share information about these trainings as information becomes available.
