Last week, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced it was extending the time period for comments on its proposed Medicaid Financial Accountability Proposed Rule until February 1. WSHA is gathering information for its comments and is working closely with the American Hospital Association regarding a national response. We will share our letter with members soon.
The proposed rule makes significant changes to requirements for certain programs used by states to obtain federal matching funds for Medicaid services. While the exact impact of the rule for our state is not known, there is concern the rule could result in a significant reduction in federal funding and impact access to medicaid services, which are already paid significantly less than the cost of providing the care.
