Bulletin: Repeal of AIDS training and other changes to state HIV and AIDs laws

July 16, 2020

WSHA has released a bulletin about recent changes modernizing Washington’s laws on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). In particular, the law repeals the requirement for AIDs training and education and the requirement for AIDS counseling for pregnant women and people seeking treatment for sexually transmitted diseases. It also permits minors 14 and older to consent to treatment to prevent HIV infection without parent or guardian consent. The law makes several other changes all towards reflecting modern science, reducing stigma and improving public health.
