E2SHB 1272, heavily negotiated and passed during the 2021 legislative session, significantly expanded hospital financial reporting requirements. The Department of Health has provided a reporting guide for existing and new billing requirements. The guide had previously been provided by DOH to hospitals, but at WSHA’s request is now posted at appropriate locations on the DOH website to ensure access. Some of the new requirements are additional data to existing reporting (such as expanded CHARS reporting to include demographic data), others are new reports such as the Consolidated Income Statement and Balance Sheet for health systems and Community Health Improvement Services. The timing of some reports is based on the hospital’s year-end close date. For more information, see the guide. WSHA previously provided bulletins here and here on the new requirements.
