Seattle Children’s Hospital head chief Ryan Garcia is a man on a mission — to transform hospital food into a memorable gourmet experience. Garcia brings 25 years of experience to the kitchen. He’s worked with famed chef Wolfgang Puck.

Overlake Hospital opens new Neuroscience Institute

The new Neuroscience Institute at Overlake Hospital opened on Oct. 24 during the medical center’s annual Eastside Vitality Health Fair. The Institute combines the Overlake neurology and neurosurgery clinics in a new 7,000-square-foot space.

Premature baby beats medical odds

The Maple Valley boy arrived at 22 weeks at Seattle’s Swedish Medical Center in 2012 — one day shy of 23 weeks, then regarded as the lowest threshold at which medical crews should attempt resuscitation. He was so early that in some states, he legally could have been aborted. He’s now 3.

Bothell man first in nation to don wearable artificial kidney

As part of a clinical trial at UW Medicine, Chuck experienced 24 hours of renewed freedom when he tested a wearable artificial kidney. The 10 pound belt did the work of his kidneys. The goal is to make it small and light enough for patients to be active.

UW Medicine set to open neighborhood clinic in Olympia

UW Medicine is set to open its first neighborhood clinic in Olympia, an extension of a partnership announced last year by Capital Medical Center and the University of Washington group. The clinic will be 12,300 square feet, across from St. Peter Hospital.
