The US Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) has established the 2019 Federal Poverty Guidelines. The guidelines (also referred to as the federal poverty level or FPL) are effective as of Jan. 11, 2019. The federal poverty guidelines are especially important for hospitals, as they are used to assess charity care eligibility under state law. Please check that your hospital is using the appropriate guidelines to assess charity care applications. More information, including the 2019 chart by family size and income, is available on the HHS website.
