UW Bias Reporting System
December 5, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Despite codes of conduct and policies on professionalism, individuals may consciously or unconsciously engage in microaggressions, demonstrate negative biases, and express racist, sexist, xenophobic, homophobic, transphobic, or other discriminating beliefs and behaviors. These incidents of bias may be generated by or directed towards patients, visitors, students or the healthcare workforce. Such events adversely impact the experiences and wellbeing of others and may be detrimental to safety and health outcomes.
Learn how UW Medicine designed and deployed a Bias Reporting Tool to collect incidents of bias from providers, staff, trainees and students. Paula Houston, Chief Equity Officer, UW Medicine and Associate Vice President for Medical Affairs, UW and Dr. Trish Kritek, Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs for the UW School of Medicine will share design considerations, how incidents are reviewed and how data is used to guide collective action.
This webinar may be of particular interest to hospitals eligible for the 2022 Medicaid Quality Incentive (MQI). This content relates to the MQI equity measure requiring establishment of a bias reporting system along with timely review and response.
