SOGI Webinar Aug 20th: Adolescent Reporting of SOGI Information
August 20 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Great news! Registration is now open for the next WSHA SOGI webinar, featuring Beau Ohlgren. This session takes place Aug 20th from 1-2:30pm PT and will focus on best practices for collecting sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) information from adolescents in a hospital setting. Case scenarios will be presented for group discussion. The session will be recorded and those who attend live and complete the evaluation will be eligible to receive CECH credit.
We will also review the new WSHA Recommendations for Collecting and Reporting Pediatric Inpatient Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Data. Under state law (originating from HB1272), all Washington hospitals must collect and report detailed patient demographic data, including sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI). While the law directed DOH to create rules regarding the specific data categories that must be reported by hospitals, there are significant gaps in the law, including guidance on age. At the request of the WSHA Board Safety and Quality Committee, WSHA convened a workgroup of subject matter experts, including all WA Children’s Hospitals, to provide guidance on appropriate age for pediatric SOGI data collection, privacy and parent/guardian access considerations as well as coding uniformity.
Please let Abby know if you have specific questions for Beau to address during the session on August 20th. This webinar is free and open to anyone who is interested in learning more.
