Introduction to the Healthcare Equality Index (HEI)

Learn about the Healthcare Equality Index (HEI), the national LGBTQ benchmarking tool that evaluates healthcare facilities’ policies and practices related to the equity and inclusion of their LGBTQ patients, visitors and employees. Guest presenter, Tari Hanneman, Director of the Health and Aging Program at the Human Rights Campaign will provide an overview of the HEI and two WSHA member hospitals who achieved Equality Leader distinction in the 2020 HEI report: Jefferson Healthcare and Virginia Mason Hospital, will share their experiences and approaches for providing gender-affirming care. The survey for HEI 2022 is launching this month, with the next report due out at the end of March 2022.  WSHA is proud of our  Washington State HEI Leaders from the HEI 2020 report and looks forward to supporting and encouraging others to participate in the HEI 2022!
