WSHA: Senate tax bill’s proposed elimination of insurance mandate drives up costs for paying patients

November 17, 2017

“At some point in life, we all need intense medical care, and hospitals are there to provide it, whether or not you have health insurance. But if the insurance mandate goes away, more people will choose to be uninsured. This effectively means their hospital bills will be absorbed by insured patients, who will have to pay more for both insurance and care. Having everyone in our state with health coverage is necessary to controlling health care costs; WSHA opposes the elimination of the mandate in the Senate tax bill.”
