WSHA responds to coronavirus in Washington State

January 24, 2020

We are working with our members and health officials to respond to the first United States case of the Wuhan coronavirus, in Everett. Hospitals are always on alert for infectious contagions, as they frequently treat patients with conditions, such as the flu, that can spread quickly. Hospitals have protocols and protective equipment designed to prevent the spread of infectious disease. We and our members are working closely with public health officials including the Washington State Department of Health and the Centers from Disease Control and Prevention to ensure we are prepared to respond to and treat coronavirus. Our proximity to Asia and the fact that a case has been identified here have put hospitals across the state on high alert to identify possible other cases. The Washington State DOH has established a call center to address questions. You may also direct concerns or questions to WSHA Senior Vice President, Safety and Quality, Darcy Jaffe at DarcyJ@wsha.org.
