The Medicare Provider Reimbursement Manual requires hospitals to adjust their Medicare cost reports to eliminate the portion of association dues related to lobbying expenses. WSHA and AWPHD recently calculated and is informing WSHA and AWPHD members of the proportion of membership dues used for lobbying purposes for calendar year 2021. Please share this information with staff responsible for completion of Medicare cost reports.
For calendar year 2021, the Washington State Hospital Association (WSHA) determined 21.5 percent of its membership dues were expended in activities that meet the Medicare definition of lobbying. For the Association of Washington Public Hospital Districts (AWPHD), 15.9 percent of its membership dues were used for lobbying activities. (Andrew Busz, AndrewB@wsha.org)
