WSHA Advocacy on Hospital Financial Challenges

August 11, 2022

WSHA’s efforts to raise awareness of hospital’s unprecedented capacity and financial challenges are having an impact. WSHA sent a letter to all state legislators and health care regulators detailing the financial losses and reasons for them. In response to voicing our growing concerns about patient who are unable to be discharged, we received a letter from the Governor’s office detailing efforts underway to help reduce the number of these patients. While we thank the Governor for this funding, we recognize that significant issues remain. WSHA will continuing our work to support our members in advocating for needed changes to decant hospitals and improve the financial stability of the health care system.

If you missed the media coverage, here are articles from the Seattle Times and the Spokesman Review. Thank you to those who responded to WSHA’s financial survey as this critical information would not be available without your work. (Chelene Whiteaker, CheleneW@wsha.org)
