Washington patients can now manage care at Providence and Swedish via Alexa

May 9, 2019

Now, if Washington residents want to schedule an appointment with providers at Providence St. Joseph Hospital or Swedish Medical Center, they can do so through the Amazon Alexa app. A variety of care management options are available, including setting up health care visits, finding available appointment options, scheduling and canceling appointments and finding nearby locations to access health care. The new service is voice-activated and available on any Alexa-enabled device.

“Voice is going to be a big part of the future in all areas of our lives, including health and health care,” Providence St. Joseph Health Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer Aaron Martin said. “We’re excited to be one of the first health systems in the U.S. to build Alexa skills that help our patients connect to our providers and get faster access to care. We’re innovating around how consumers experience and access health care.”

Currently, care management via Alexa is available in Seattle and at 22 clinics across Washington. To set up the service, enable the Providence Health Connect or Swedish Health Connect mobile apps through the Alexa app. Providence St. Joseph Hospital has announced its goal of expanding Alexa care management to Oregon as well. Additional information is available online.
