Washington hospitals: Prevent opioid misuse in your community on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

April 29, 2022

WSHA invites our members to participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, Saturday, April 30, 2022. Take back events on this day allow Washington residents to safely dispose of prescription drugs and vaping products.

Opioid misuse continues to be a serious national public health issue with nearly 71,000 drug overdose deaths involving an opioid in 2019. Most people who misuse prescription drugs get them from family, friends and/or acquaintances.

One key comprehensive strategy in reducing opioid misuse is to join state and national community-based efforts, which is why WSHA encourages participating in National Drug Take Back Day. Last week, WSHA and the Washington State Health Care Authority provided a collaborative educational webinar on opioid stewardship and how hospital members can support their communities and take action through participating in this event. If you missed the webinar, you can access the recording online here or learn more from the Health Care Authority’s April 26 news release.
