The American Hospital Association (AHA) plans to publicly release this Friday the names of more than 1300 hospitals that have signed the 340B Good Stewardship Principles, including 41 Washington hospitals. The 340B program requires drug manufacturers to sell drugs to qualifying entities at a discounted price, to help eligible hospitals expand access to lifesaving prescription drugs and comprehensive health care services in vulnerable communities. Opponents of the program, including drug manufacturers, often point to transparency concerns as a reason to make major and harmful changes to the program. By committing to these principles, hospitals are taking an important step to dispel the false claims that the 340B program isn’t fulfilling its mission.
Hospitals can contact Andrew Busz at andrewb@wsha.org or (206) 216-2533 for more information and resources. Resources include how 340B hospitals can sign the pledge and how hospitals can tell their story of how the program is being used to benefit their community.
