The UW Medicine/Harborview Center for Sexual Assault and Traumatic Stress is offering free sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) trainings for nurses employed by Washington State hospitals. Travel stipends are available for rural nurses.

WSHA supports patient access to high-quality, specially trained nurses in hospitals that provide sexual assault evidence kit collection. WSHA’s work includes participating on the joint legislative Sexual Assault Forensic Examination Best Practices Task Force to review best practice models for managing all aspects of sexual assault examinations. We are also assisting the state in a study on the availability of SANE nurses, looking at strategies for increasing the availability of sexual assault nurse examiners in underserved areas.
