Sunnyside Community Hospital broke ground Sept. 29 on its new oncology center, which will offer Sunnyside residents a place to get preventative care and cancer treatment close to home. Presently, residents of the Yakima County town need to travel to either Yakima or the Tri-Cities for care. The new facility will feature an infusion treatment area, four exam rooms, a prescription area, private areas and offices.
“The diagnosis and treatment of cancer is life changing for our patients and their families,” Sunnyside CEO John Gallagher said at the groundbreaking. “We’re here today to provide our patients with what they deserve — cancer prevention and treatment close to home.”
Offering these types of new services in rural communities has a tremendous impact on residents, who can get the care they need, close to home and family support systems.
