September is Sepsis Awareness Month

August 2, 2019

Every September, health care providers, the public and organizations big and small come together to raise awareness of sepsis, the leading cause of death in U.S. hospitals. Did you know sepsis takes more lives than opioids, breast cancer and prostate cancer combined?

September has been designated as Sepsis Awareness Month by the Sepsis Alliance, the leading sepsis advocacy organization in the United States. Sepsis Awareness Month is the perfect time to empower your patients and community with information about sepsis, the signs and symptoms to watch out for, the steps they can take to help prevent it and tips for communicating with their health care team. It is also a great opportunity to share best practices and learn what other hospitals and health systems are doing to raise awareness about sepsis.

Call to action: Let WSHA know what you are doing for Sepsis Awareness Month so we can support your work through our newsletters and social media platforms by emailing Emily Pate at EmilyP@wsha.org. If you are looking for resources or ideas, check out the Sepsis Alliance’s Sepsis Awareness Month Toolkit.
