Save the date: HCA webinar on potentially preventable readmissions reports April 28

March 23, 2016

On April 28 from 10:00-11:30 a.m., HCA will be hosting webinar to provide hospital staff an explanation of the quarterly hospital reports HCA sent each facility as part of its Potentially Preventable Readmissions (PPR) program, which replaces denial of individual inpatient readmissions with prospective adjustments to inpatient payment rates. The purpose of the reports is to provide hospitals with information to help them identify cases where care improvements could influence their rate of potentially preventable readmissions. We will be providing webinar connection information when it becomes available.

On a related note, HCA is still seeking a single, primary contact person for some hospitals to receive the PPR reports each quarter. This person will receive the hospital’s report download information and be responsible for providing the information to appropriate persons in their facility. HCA is seeking a single point of contact for the reports due to HIPAA concerns. If your facility does not believe it received a quarterly PPR report recently, please determine or verify the primary contact person within your organization and notify Abigail Cole at HCA at abigail.cole@hca.wa.gov.
HCA is also in the process of rulemaking which changes the effective date of PPR payment rate adjustments to the first day of each calendar year and makes a corresponding change to the calculation period. While not specified in the rule, HCA will maintain its existing rate adjustment, currently limited to a maximum one percent reduction per facility, through calendar year 2016.
Additional information regarding the state’s PPR program is available in our previous bulletin.  (Andrew Busz, andrewb@wsha.org)
