Rural Quality Award winner for 2019 is Kittitas Valley Healthcare

August 12, 2019

In recognition of outstanding improvement in the safety and quality of rural health care, the 2019 “Rural Quality ~ Everyday Extraordinary” award has been awarded to Kittitas Valley Healthcare.

During the submission process, rural facilities wishing to be considered submitted answers to 10 essay questions. Submissions were blinded and evaluated by a panel of judges. Scoring was on a point system that included a certain number of points for process improvement tools used for data collection, data analysis, identifying the root cause of the process failure, multidisciplinary teamwork, communication and project outcomes.

The submissions for this award revealed the hard work our rural facilities are doing every day to reduce harm and improve the health of the communities they serve. All the submissions were worthy of an award, but one of the submissions received the highest score.

Kittitas Valley Healthcare (KVH) took on the challenge of developing a program usually only found in large medical teaching institutions. With the support of KVH administration and their community health partners, they developed a robust Rural Grand Rounds educational program. In this program, health care professionals from across the community come together to learn from patient care experiences so that they may better meet patients’ needs and expectations in the future. To date, 553 healthcare professionals have participated. KVH took one of their core values—collaboration—and put it into action: We work as a team, in partnership with the broader medical community, to ensure patients receive the best care.

Congratulations to Kittitas Valley Healthcare and staff!
