June 7 was Hospitals Against Violence day. Hospitals and staff from across the country united to take as stand in combating violence. As I reflect on the excitement around this event, I’m also remined by the work ahead. Health care workers are four times more likely to experience serious workplace violence when compared to professions in other industries.
WSHA in collaboration with regional partners is working hard to address workplace violence. Our initial work includes the development of tools and resources to support hospitals in addressing workplace violence and the development of standardized alerts to help support hospital staff in taking appropriate steps to prevent workplace violence from occurring in the first place.
