Reconstruction available to breast cancer survivors

October 25, 2017

The Washington State Health Care Authority, Office of the Insurance Commissioner and Department of Health have teamed up to let breast cancer survivors know that insurance that covers mastectomies must also cover breast reconstruction. This includes reconstructive surgery and breast prostheses or forms. Helping patients recover a sense of wholeness is crucial to a full recovery following breast cancer treatment. You can help by sharing this flyer with your community.

The groups launched their effort in honor of Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day October 18, and it follows Senate Bill 5481, which required the groups to work together to educate breast cancer survivors on the topic. (Mary Kay Clunies-Ross)
