Eighth graders get a touchy-feely science lesson from researchers at UW Medicine
Researchers from UW Medicine take a trip to Mill Creek Middle School in Kent for a hands-on lesson. The lungs and heart of a pig give a graphic demonstration of how our organs work together. It seems somewhat gross, but the students think otherwise.

EvergreenHealth’s Board of Commissioners approves resolution to request expansion of board
EvergreenHealth’s Board of Commissioners approved a resolution to expand the King County Public Hospital District No. 2 board from five to seven commissioners at its regular public board meeting April 19. The resolution requests that King County Elections place a proposition on the Aug. 2, 2016 election ballot to allow the registered voters in EvergreenHealth’s district to decide on the expansion.

From Virginia Mason to the wild: Endangered turtle takes final flight
On Thursday, the turtle hopped aboard a U.S. Coast Guard transport plane to finish its rehabilitation at Sea World San Diego, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said. It will eventually be released into the wild later this summer.

Harrison earns award for critical care
Harrison Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit has earned a silver level Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Units that receive a Beacon award are recognized for excellence in patient care.

New rehab rooms offer style, quicker recovery
In Whatcom County, as in other parts of the country, more people recovering from a major surgery or injury have nicer and smarter places to recuperate, including 14 remodeled rooms at St. Joseph hospital in Bellingham. Not only are new rehabilitation rooms more pleasant, they offer easy access to equipment and more.

Providence Hospice and Home Care of Snohomish County opens new hospice care center
Providence Hospice and Home Care of Snohomish County has opened a 16-bed inpatient hospice care center located on the 8th floor of Providence Regional Medical Center Everett’s Colby campus. It’s the first hospice center to be inside a hospital in the state.

Samaritan set to launch cardiac rehab program
Thanks in part to a $105,000 donation from the Samaritan Healthcare Foundation, Samaritan hospital is gearing up to launch a new cardiac rehabilitation program this spring.
