Effective March 8, hospitals, including critical access hospitals, must notify Medicare patients when the patients are placed into outpatient observation status. Hospitals must provide oral and written notification through the use of the standard Medicare Outpatient Observation Notification (MOON) form. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services recently provided more detailed instructions via an update to its Medicare Manual, but hospitals have some flexibility in how they implement the requirements.
On February 22 from 12:00-1:00pm, WSHA will provide a webinar to help hospitals with implementation. The webinar will include:
- Background on the issue
- Overview of general provisions of the law enacting the new requirements and the MOON form
- Opportunity for hospitals to share their questions, insights, and best practices on implementing the notification requirements
Please register for the webinar using the connection information below. We plan to make a recording of the webinar available to members, but the most useful piece will likely be discussion among participating members. If you have questions you wish to address or have insights you are willing to share, please contact Andrew Busz at andrewb@wsha.org in advance of the webinar.
