Online web form available for federal No Surprises Act dispute resolution submissions

October 26, 2022

The federal agencies overseeing the federal No Surprise Act (NSA) released an online form for providers, facilities, and insurers to submit claims to the federal independent dispute resolution (IDR) process. This process applies to disputes between insurers and providers regarding the payment amount paid for an out-of-network service subject to the NSA that were not resolved during the NSA open negotiation period.

Payment disputes regarding out-of-network services subject to Washington state’s Balance Billing Protection Act (BBPA), follow a different dispute resolution process with a separate form. The BBPA includes coverage through fully insured state-regulated plans and self-funded groups that have opted into the BBPA.

More information on the NSA IDR process is available on the CMS IDR website. (Andrew Busz, AndrewB@wsha.org)
