Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky signed a decision memo Oct. 20 and released a media statement allowing Novavax monovalent COVID-19 boosters for people ages 18 and older. The vaccine targets the original COVID-19 strain, following Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) granting of emergency use authorization.
Novavax monovalent COVID-19 boosters are available for people 18 years and older if they have completed the primary vaccination series but have not previously received a COVID-19 booster, and if they cannot or will not receive an updated mRNA booster. The Novavax booster should be administered six months after the primary series doses are completed. Visit Clinical Guidance for COVID-19 Vaccination for further guidance. (Tina Seery)
