The Washington State Department of Ecology issued a Dangerous Waste Pharmaceuticals Guide for Washington Health Care Facilities regarding the state’s recently adopted federal management standards for hazardous waste pharmaceuticals. The guide outlines the compliance requirements and explains the provisions that apply in health care settings. The new standards first took effect at the federal level in August 2019 and became effective in Washington State in October 2020. The new guide is available online. WSHA has also created a policy bulletin summarizing the new standards.
