MultiCare Allenmore Hospital in Tacoma is nearing completion of an expansion to increase its annual capacity by 10,000 patients per year. The project broke ground in January in response to the growing need for fast and efficient emergency services in the Tacoma community. Hospital leaders expect to complete the project this fall.
The expansion adds 14,600 square feet to the hospital and increases its patient capacity by 30 percent. The project also focuses on amenities and features that allow for faster access to care while simultaneously helping improve the patient experience, safety and flow. The emergency department has continued operations throughout the project.
“This investment in our emergency department is a tangible reflection of our commitment to the community and just one of several new initiatives that we’re working to further elevate the level of care at Allenmore,” says Sharon Oxendale, president and chief operating officer of MultiCare Allenmore Hospital.
A second phase of the project will begin immediately after to renovate the existing ER. Read more about the project and about its “topping out” milestone from the summer. (Tim Pfarr)
