Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center’s medical-surgery nursing unit recently received the AMSN PRISM Award. The PRISM Award identifies med-surge units who exhibit exemplary nursing practice, sustainable and skilled staffing, expert leadership and positive patient outcomes.
The PRISM Award is co-sponsored by the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses and the Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board. Legacy Salmon Creek’s nursing unit is the first in the Northwest to receive the international award. The award is a testament to the exemplary work of the Legacy Salmon Creek nursing practice.
The hospital system is also investing in strengthening its nursing practice through supporting employees pursuing nursing careers. The Salmon Creek Hospital Foundation has announced a nursing scholarship to assist in the educational advancement of Legacy Salmon Creek employees. The scholarships are part of the KMR Group Foundation Nursing Scholarship Fund and will support employees in earning an associates or bachelor’s degree in nursing. There are over 20 scholarships available, in addition to the tuition reimbursement currently available to employees through the Legacy Educational Assistance Program.
Recipients of the scholarship attributed their commitment to pursue nursing to being inspired by the work of the nurses they work with and a desire to work directly with patients in providing high-quality care.
