Join forces with pediatric experts to support substance-exposed infants and improve discharges

January 6, 2025

The American Academy of Pediatrics is launching a virtual learning collaborative for NICU Teams from February to August 2025, aimed at improving discharge planning for infants born substance-exposed or with neonatal abstinence syndrome. The project will focus on ensuring a safe transition from hospital to home, with continuity of care through community-based referrals. The application deadline is Jan. 13, 2025.

Goals include:

  • Increasing knowledge of discharge planning for mother-infant dyads.
  • Improving communication with mothers with substance use disorder (SUD) or in recovery.
  • Enhancing self-efficacy in screening, intervention and referrals for women with SUD.

The project aims to increase by 25% the number of neonates and their parents discharged with a documented safe discharge plan.

Interested hospital teams should complete this short online application form.
