WSHA has posted an updated listing of the existing state and federal signage and communications requirements that are applicable to hospitals. While not exhaustive, this resource includes citation to the relevant law, a summary of the requirement, and links to relevant mandatory or WSHA model language as of August 2024. We encourage hospitals to review this document against their own hospital signage and notice policies to ensure compliance with state and federal laws.
State and federal laws require hospitals to provide an array of notice and signage to patients, workforce members and the public. Compliance with these requirements is often visible and easy to investigate by hospital visitors. The Washington State Attorney General’s Office has been known to bring enforcement actions for violations. Hospitals could be subject to significant penalties if found to be out of compliance.
