HCA seeks feedback on medication purchasing program

February 11, 2022

During its regular 2021 session, the 67th Washington State Legislature passed two bills regarding the production or purchasing, distribution and access of pharmaceuticals:

  • Senate Bill 5195 directs the Washington Health Care Authority (HCA) to establish a bulk purchasing and distribution program for naloxone, an opioid overdose reversal medication (RCW 70.14.170).
  • Senate Bill 5203 directs HCA to establish partnerships to produce, distribute or purchase insulin and generic prescription drugs (RCW 70.14.065).

The HCA solicited feedback from interested parties throughout September and October 2021 on how HCA could move forward in developing these programs. That feedback helped inform HCA on drafting key principles and possible features.

HCA is now seeking additional interested party feedback specific to the guiding principles that will help drive the selection of future policy options. Please take this online survey to submit feedback to the HCA.

The survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete and will be open through Feb. 25, 2022. Your time and insights would be appreciated. Please send questions to HCA contact Leta Evaskus at Leta.Evaskus@HCA.WA.GOV. (HCA)
