HCA provides guidance for health care providers in case of state budget shutdown

June 21, 2017

The Health Care Authority recently sent guidance regarding the potential effect of a partial state government shutdown if a 2017-19 state budget is not enacted by July 1, 2017, particularly its effect on the Washington Apple Health (Medicaid) program and the Public Employees Benefits Board (PEBB) Program. While coverage under the programs is expected to continue without lapse, there will be suspension of fee-for-service Medicaid payment, customer service, and other state operations until a budget is finalized. HCA has communicated it will waive prior authorization requirements in limited cases where immediate services are necessary to prevent loss of limb or life. Further instructions and information can be found here. (Andrew Busz, andrewb@wsha.org)
