Like many areas in the Pacific Northwest, the Puget Sound region’s Eastside community is rapidly growing. For EvergreenHealth, this means increased demands on health care services. In response, the hospital system has included prioritizing patient care in its strategic plan, specifically through expanding its capacity to meet patients’ cardiovascular and neurosurgical needs.

Over the past three years, the EvergreenHealth Neuroscience, Spine and Orthopedic Institute has grown into a comprehensive center. An essential element of this growth is the addition of advanced biplane imagining technology to support complex vascular and neurosurgical procedures. This new technology assists EvergreenHealth providers specializing in treating complex, life-threatening conditions through identifying aneurisms, blood clots and other blockages or malformations in blood vessels.

With the biplane imaging technology, EvergreenHealth providers can offer patients a minimally invasive alternative to open surgery. For patients, this means a more positive experience with a quicker recover time. The technology is a key support to EvergreenHealth in continuing to provide exceptional, comprehensive, high-quality patient care in the neurosurgical realm, and beyond.

“Every second counts for a patient who has suffered a stroke or other severe vascular complication,” EvergreenHealth CEO Amy Beiter, MD, said. “Having this lifesaving technology on site means our expert team of physicians and staff can treat the most complex cases without the need for patients to be transferred to other facilities.”

The new technology also means an increase in EvergreenHealth’s capacity to serve patients. The institute is expected to add about 1,200 procedures in the first year. Purchasing the imaging technology was funded by the EvergreenHealth Foundation, community donors and proceeds from the 2018 Evergreen Gala.
