EvergreenHealth has started the first phase of construction on a new catheterization and interventional radiology suite, which is scheduled to open next year on the hospital’s Kirkland campus. The new suite adds capacity to better treat the growing community and allows providers to better treat cardiovascular disease, which remains the country’s top cause of death.
The new catheterization lab will add to the health system’s two existing procedural suites, which serve heart and vascular care patients with a range of diagnostic and minimally invasive procedures. The catheterization labs are also increasingly used by interventional radiologists to perform other minimally invasive, non-cardiac procedures.
The suite will also include the addition of a bi-plane machine: a state-of-the-art interventional imaging unit that produces detailed 3D images of vessels and blood flow in real time. The technology helps providers precisely identify the source of a neurological blockage or malformation in the vessels, and prescribe immediate treatment.
The project is a critical part of EvergreenHealth’s Master Facilities Plan, which is a 10-year blueprint designed to accommodate the rapid growth of Eastern King County and update the health system’s structures with the latest seismic and structural safety features.
“Adding another catheterization lab with new infrastructure and equipment improvements helps us provide patients with the highest level of care, while meeting our growing community’s needs for its most pressing health issues,” says EvergreenHealth CEO and WSHA Board Chair Bob Malte.
