The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) is offering a webcast from 12-1 p.m. Aug. 20 about how to determine a patient’s capacity to make decisions. Surrogate decision makers are needed for patients who lack capacity. WSHA supported legislation that passed in 2019 expanding who can be a surrogate decision maker for a patient. This WSHA bulletin provides more information on the law.
The webcast is sponsored by the Washington Rural Palliative Care Initiative, which is a pilot to better serve patients with serious illness in rural communities. More information is available here. (Zosia Stanley)
