DASH Premium webinar: Inpatient to Outpatient Surgical Migration

September 14, 2022

Please join WSHA and Washington Hospital Services (WHS) from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, Sept. 29 for the first in a series of webinars that will highlight important procedure trends utilizing our latest DASH Premium Dashboard: Surgical Procedures. WSHA Senior Data Analyst Danny Lunder will explain the ongoing trend of surgical migrations from the inpatient to outpatient setting. Register here.

Historically our hospitals performed most procedures in an inpatient setting with long lengths of stay. This increased the cost of care and used valuable hospital resources to care for patients. With the advancement of surgical techniques and care for patients, it became clear that many of these patients could be discharged quicker, or have their surgeries performed in a setting with lower acuity. There are many procedures that are almost entirely performed in an outpatient setting, which decreases cost and increases patient satisfaction.

Danny will walk through how specific procedures have been performed historically, as well as the current trends we see today and into the future, then slice them by interesting dimensions and measures. Example dimensions include zip code, city, hospital, system and provider. Example Measures include inpatient procedure count, outpatient procedure count, percent commercial, average inpatient length of stay, and percent 300-day all-cause ED visit rate.

Please join us for this webinar to see hospital data in action! A 30-minute webinar series for DASH Premium is forthcoming. For more information about DASH and DASH Premium webinars contact Cynthia Hay, cynthiah@wsha.org, or (206) 216-2526. (Cynthia Hay)
