Connecting the community

February 14, 2018

The Long Beach Peninsula boasts the natural beauty of Washington’s coastline, with the Pacific Ocean to the west and north, and Willapa Bay to the east. With access to its communities only available from the south, access to medical care can mean a bit of a drive.

To connect residents to care much closer to home, Ilwaco-based Ocean Beach Hospital opened its latest clinic in the peninsula community of Ocean Park. The hospital broke ground on the clinic last summer and held its grand opening in January. The new clinic is expected to serve about half of the peninsula’s permanent population of 11,000. Not only will it mean less travel for those on the peninsula, but also less congestion and service constraints at the Ilwaco hospital.

“It’s a game changer for our community from a medical delivery and care perspective,” Ocean Beach Hospital CEO Larry Cohen said. “The opening of this clinic will make getting services much more convenient, save time and expense, and annually cut thousands of car trips down Pacific Avenue and Sandridge Road. It will boost the Ocean Park economy by keeping more people local.”
