The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services recently released two new sets of frequently asked questions related to the federal No Surprises Act. One is focused on the good faith estimate (GFE) for uninsured (self-pay) individuals. The FAQ clarifies that if a patient schedules a service fewer than three days in advance, the provider does not need to provide a GFE. These FAQs also address the scenario where the patient has insurance coverage and seeks to use it when the service is scheduled, but then is uninsured on the date of service.
The second set of FAQS addresses a broad range of questions related to No Surprises Act requirements and implementation. (Andrew Busz, andrewb@wsha.org)
